Pumpkins + the ABCs
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that the past few months I've been a little bit obsessed with sharing more about the ABC's and the right way for kids to learn them.
The ABC's are the building blocks of reading and writing. Children who learn the ABC's the right way from the start have a strong foundation for future success in academics. In addition, the ABC's are a gateway to understanding how language works.
By learning the alphabet, children can begin to understand the concepts of phonics and spelling. As a result, they are better equipped to learn new words and improve their reading skills.
Mastering the alphabet is an important milestone in a child's development. It can give them a sense of pride and satisfaction, and build a solid foundation for future learning when taught the right way. The way we teach the ABC's greatly impacts a child when they begin the journey of learning to read independently.
Don't throw those pumpkins away! Below are several ways you can put those pumpkins to use while teaching the ABC's:
Cover the pumpkin with dot stickers that each have a letter written on it:
🎃 call out the letter you need
🎃call out the sound you need
🎃call out only a few specific letters
🎃call out the letters in their name
🎃upper case & lower case match
🎃ask for the first sound in ______
