Fight Over Phonics

SO many of you sent me this NYTimes article today & are sharing how grateful you are that this is NOT new information because you have been a big city readers family for years. If you are brand new, give a listen to this podcast as a great summary about the reading crisis in America.

<<The Daily: Fight Over Phonics>>

While extremely upsetting, we know this is not new information to hear that ⅓ of kids are not reading proficiently because they are not being taught how to read the right way. Yes, you should be livid. It is an extremely solvable social justice issue.

This week on my new podcast, (did I tell you I launched a podcast?! I did! Subscriber to The Play On Words Podcast on Apple and Spotify!) I deep dive into the alarming truth that kids can't read, what you need to know and what your job is. Because we know, nothing gets done until a whole lot of parents get loud about it.

If you are a parent of a pre-reader, this is still a great listen to learn when learning to read starts and how to advocate for not only your child, but every child.

Check out the episode below & let me know what you think! I made this new platform to connect and share information with you in an easier to digest format. I'd love to answer any questions that you have to discuss a topic you'd like to learn about on a deeper level. Send your questions and ideas to hello@bigcityreaders.com.
