Our Big City Parents rave that their child’s kindergarten or first grade teachers often ask if they utilize a reading specialist, because of all the strategies they and their child started school with!

Did you know?

  • 80% of brain development happens by age three and 90% by age five.

  • The gaps in learning that can cause struggles in third, fourth, and fifth grade, can be prevented in the first five years of development.

  • Attempting to start the reading journey at age five is like trying to run a marathon before you learn to walk.

Do you want to help your child develop a love of learning?

Hi! You can call me Miss Beth. I'm the founder and creator of Big City Readers, and early childhood literacy company dedicated to helping you raise strong readers from day one.

I spent years working in different classrooms and reading intervention programs—from preschool to eighth grade—and I saw the kids were facing the same reading problems over and over again. So, what did I do? I started researching the similarities and differences in what kids and teachers were facing day-to-day and I discovered this wasn't a reading problem I needed to solve. This was a reading problem I could prevent.

I learned that these gaps in kids learning that could get them by in early years, but cause them to struggle when they got to third, fourth, and fifth grade, could actually be prevented in the first five years of their development. How? By providing parents and teachers with the tools and strategies kids really need to grow as lifelong readers.

True reading skills come from a strong foundation in phonological awareness, which is the ability to understand sound. Phonological awareness comes first, then phonics. Phonics is connecting the sound to the letter. It Is also Imperative that kids are able to understand the proper formation and connection between sounds and letters. I've designed this program to give you the tools to help build that foundation.

Let’s learn the ABCs the right way! Introducing

It’s not your fault and its not your child’s fault they are struggling. It really ISN’T as easy as ABC.

There is so much misinformation about learning to read and what preschoolers and kindergarteners really need, I HAD to make it easier for parents and teachers to know exactly what their kids need and take away everything else.

Designed by Miss Beth, Orton Gillingham and Science of Reading trained educator, early childhood education thought leader and founder of Big City Readers, The Alphabet made Easy program contains monthly workbooks for lower case and upper case printing and teaches students to recognize letters, form them properly and learn the alphabet sequence.

At the end of this year membership, you’ll feel confident knowing exactly what sound each letter makes, when to teach it, how to implement mini lessons and activities into your day, lay down the foundations of lifelong reading success and know how to begin to teach your child to read with tracking print and beginning blending activities.

Are you ready to read? Enroll in The Alphabet made easy and soon you'll *really* know your ABCs.

Meet Miss Beth

the brilliant mind behind the whole operation.

Trained as a multi sensory literacy instructor, a former early childhood educator and elementary school teacher herself, she is super popular in the “under-5-year-old” demo as well as the “mama-looking-for-community” demo. She founded Big City Readers to create a space for families to come together, understand how to teach their kids in their unique ways they are wired to learn, not just how to teach reading, build community AND have fun. She blends the roles of teacher and buddy seamlessly. She works tirelessly to connect parents and is personally responsible for MANY #BigCityBFFs.

Join the big city crew and soak up all the reading tips and free story time lives by following on Instagram @bigcityreaders or by taking a virtual class unlike any other.

take their word for it

"You've changed the way I've done so many things with my three year old....

I wish I could describe how invaluable your classes, stories, and [office hours] are for me. Even though I am a primary teacher, the ”gap" between babies and PK is the foundation of so many skills. We don't know what we would do without you, truly."
